Take away the years with dermal filler options that are designed to provide same day results but also the safety of reversible hyaluronic acid filler. These injectables are formulated to add volume and definition with compounds designed to naturally blend in with various areas of your skin. The length of time results last depends on the individual, though typical results will last 9-12 months. Common areas to add volume with filler are: lips, cheeks, chin, nasolabial folds, jawline, and vertical lip lines. A consultation is important to discuss your goals.
Young, healthy-looking skin contains an abundance of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). But as you age, sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of HA in your skin. The loss of volume in and under skin is a visible sign of aging. Over 50% of the population is between 25 and 64 years of age, including the Baby Boomer generation (ages 40-60) which looks to fight aging the most. Fillers can reduce lines, restore volume, and contour facial folds.
What is Juvéderm®?
Juvéderm® is an injectable, smooth gel dermal filler for the correction of moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles. It comes from non-animal sourced hyaluronic acid (HA), which is naturally occurring in the body.
How does Juvéderm® work?
Juvéderm® is injected below facial folds and wrinkles to fill the area just below the surface of the skin, lifting it. The lack of HA causes your skin to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds – like those parentheses lines around your nose and mouth. Using a dermal filler like JUVÉDERM® is a safe and effective way to replace the HA your skin has lost, bringing back its volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds.
The Juvéderm® Procedure
In terms of the actual Juvéderm® injectable gel treatment, it's an in-office procedure. It usually takes 30-40 minutes. There can be some discomfort injecting into facial folds, but pain management is fairly routine with either a nerve block, local anesthetic, topical anesthetic or application of ice just before injection. It is a series of injections that yields some immediate results with full transformation occurring over 2-10 days.
Prior to scheduling your dermal filler treatment, know that you should plan carefully around your social events. One should expect bruising and/or swelling for up to two weeks following treatment with fillers. There will be a two-week post-operative check (at no additional charge) to evaluate your results. We advise that you shouldn’t love or hate your results until after this two-week mark as there will be lumps, bumps, bruising and swelling. Because of this, it is not advised to have fillers injected any sooner than a month prior to important social events. Avoiding ibuprofen, aspirin, and alcohol prior to your injectables appointment will aid in lessening the amount of swelling and bruising you’ll experience. Also, if you’ll start taking Arnica tablets (which can be purchased from some drug stores, most health food stores or Amazon.com) at least 3 days prior to your appointment, continuing for 3 days following your appointment, you’ll notice considerably less post-operative inflammation.
For redness or discomfort, an ice pack can be applied for brief periods. The patient is advised to avoid extended sun or heat exposure, consumption of alcoholic beverages, and strenuous exercise for 24 hours following the treatment. We will discuss with you when make-up may be applied. We are available for you to call if you have any concerns.
