Botox Cosmetic

BOTOX Cosmetic is a nonsurgical cosmetic treatment for moderate to severe frown lines in people ages 18 to 65. BOTOX Cosmetic works by reducing the contractions of the muscles that cause those persistent frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and Crow’s feet developed over time. A consultation is important, so come in today for a complimentary visit with Dr. Andrea Ball.

BOTOX temporarily improves the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows (glabellar region), lines on the forehead, lines around the mouth, and Crow’s feet (around the eyes) lines in adults ages 18 to 65. Injecting BOTOX Cosmetic into the muscles that cause lines temporarily reduces the activity of those muscles. The result is a reduction in the appearance of those lines.

How BOTOX Cosmetic works

BOTOX Cosmetic is a purified protein that smoothes the muscles by blocking nerve impulses. With a few tiny injections, BOTOX Cosmetic blocks the release of acetylcholine, the chemical that causes muscles to contract. With less movement, the skin surface gradually smooths out and the lines begin to fade. BOTOX Cosmetic targets the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. The doctor will inject these muscles with BOTOX Cosmetic to temporarily reduce muscle activity so you will begin to notice a visible smoothing.

The BOTOX Procedure

The BOTOX Cosmetic procedure consists of a few tiny injections and takes only 10 minutes. No anesthesia is required. There may be minimal and brief discomfort, along with slight temporary bruising at the injection site, which can easily be covered up with makeup. There is no downtime.

Results are typically seen in 2 – 10 days and may continue to improve during the first week after treatment. Results may vary. With proper unit dosing, the effects of BOTOX Cosmetic can last up to four months. 89% of men and women surveyed rated the improvement in their appearance of brow frown lines as moderate to better after one month.

What you should know before a BOTOX Cosmetic procedure

To ensure the best treatment outcome, each patient is individually assessed for proper dosage. Average initial treatment of forehead lines, Crow’s feet, and frown lines is 30 – 50 units of BOTOX. This treatment can even be scheduled along with your regular dental cleaning!

Other uses for BOTOX

BOTOX can be used for therapeutic and rehabilitative applications, such as a muscle relaxant to relieve pain associated with chronic clenching and grinding of teeth with TMJ disorder. BOTOX injections into the muscles responsible for bruxism relaxes these areas, resulting in a diminished force of these muscles and the betterment of observed symptoms as a result. BOTOX can also be used to treat gummy smiles.

About Us

How many BOTOX treatments will I need?

The number of BOTOX treatments provided will vary according to individual concerns and the extent of yourfacial lines and wrinkles. Dr. Ball will suggest the appropriate quantity of BOTOX injections based on your desired treatment results and whether you wish to treat your crow's feet, brow area, or forehead. To keep up with your cosmetic results, we may recommend having BOTOX injections every few months at Ball Dentistry.

Can I have BOTOX along with other nonsurgical treatments?

If you experience more extensive and pronounced creases and wrinkles, we may suggest adding adermal filler to help you achieve optimal results. To further maximize a younger-looking radiant glow, Dr. Ball might perform additional complementary treatments, including facials or PRP with microneedling.

Are there comparable aesthetic injections available?

BOTOX Cosmetic is a certain type of wrinkle relaxer that thrives among a myriad of other comparable solutions, such as Jeuveau™, Dysport®, and XEOMIN®. All of these wrinkle relaxer treatments contain botulinum toxin type A; however, each is designed individually to meet specific problems.

BOTOX Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) Important Information

BOTOX Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in people 18 to 65 years of age for a short period of time (temporary).

BOTOX Cosmetic may cause serious side effects that can be life threatening. Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you have any of these problems any time (hours to weeks) after injection of BOTOX Cosmetic:

  • Problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing, due to weakening of associated muscles, can be severe and result in loss of life. You are at the highest risk if these problems are pre-existing before injection. Swallowing problems may last for several months

If this happens, do not drive a car, operate machinery, or do other dangerous activities

The dose of BOTOX Cosmetic is not the same as, or comparable to, another botulinum toxin product.

There has not been a confirmed serious case of spread of toxin effect when BOTOX Cosmetic has been used at the recommended dose to treat frown lines.

Serious and/or immediate allergic reactions have been reported. They include: itching, rash, red itchy welts, wheezing, asthma symptoms, or dizziness or feeling faint. Tell your doctor or get medical help right away if you are wheezing or have asthma symptoms, or if you become dizzy or faint.
